The Summer Scholars Program at Miami University is a two-week summer experience for accomplished high school students who will be juniors or seniors in the fall of 2015. The program is designed as a complete living-learning experience. They will live with other summer Scholars in a residence hall with a head adviser and an experienced staff of student counselors. Students will work with a professor and a small cohort of talented students to investigate the subject area or issues they are passionate about.
J. King, R. Campbell, M. Howell and H. Simmons received a $1350 scholarship through the Scioto County Area Foundation to pay for all fees to the summer program. Congratulations to all!
Students in Mrs. Miller's 4th Grade recently participated in The Incredible Journey. The students traveled through nine stations tracing the journey of a water molecule through the water cycle.(ocean, ground water, lake, river, plants, animals, soil, clouds, and glaciers.) To begin, the students roll a die at each station to determine the next step of their journey. They collect colored beads at each station and make a bracelet that begins with a yellow bead representing the Sun's energy. After the activity they used the bracelets to write the story of their water molecule's unique journey through the water cycle. They used specific vocabulary like evaporation, precipitation, molecule, etc.
